Allegheny Wood Products Sponsors Lumberjack Contest

On Thursday August 4, 2022 the Tri-County Fair in Petersburg West Virginia held its annual lumberjack competition and as has been the practice for the past several years AWP sponsored of the event.  West Virginia is home to several world class timber sports competitors, and they are regulars at participating in the Tri-County event.  Events included the underhand chop, standing block chop, axe throw, 2-man crosscut, Jack and Jill crosscut and hot saw.

 

This year’s overall winner and recipient of the Mark Jones Memorial Trophy was Jason Lentz. The overall winner’s trophy at the AWP sponsored event is named after the late Mark Jones, a former AWP employee and world class timber sports competitor.  Josh Wilson placed second overall Arden Cogar Jr placed third and Chris Bradshaw placed fourth overall.

AWP employee and longtime participant in timber sports competition, Brian Wamsley finished fifth overall. Brian was joined in the Jack and Jill crosscut event by AWP employee Sarah Kimble.  Sarah had never participated in a timber sports event previously, but Brian talked her into sawing with him.  After some coaching from Brian, Sarah and Brian cut thru their pine log in 12.2 seconds just 2.8 seconds behind timber sports regulars Josh Wilson and Renee Miller.
