In the beginning…
Allegheny Wood Products was focused solely on producing high quality green hardwood lumber. Over the past 40 years, AWP has grown to include kiln dried hardwood lumber, and hardwood pellets along with green hardwood lumber. With total annual sawmill capacity in excess of 200 million board feet (471,940 cubic meters) and annual dry kiln production exceeding 75 million board feet (176,978 cubic meters) AWP has become one of the largest manufacturers of Eastern US hardwood lumber.
All of the popular Appalachian species are sawn and dried at AWP.
This includes Red and White Oak, Poplar (Tulipwood), Hard and Soft Maple, Cherry, Hickory, and Walnut. Allegheny Wood Products is proud to operate state-of-the-art sawmills that produce lumber known for being well-manufactured. Our trained lumber inspectors on site make sure every board we produce meets customer expectations.
Industrial lumber for uses in pallets, crating, and RR Ties is produced in a variety of dimensions
1 x 7.25″ is the largest volume of pallet lumber produced by AWP. Random width pallet lumber is also available from all AWP sawmills. Large cants for bridge timbers and railroad ties are also an AWP specialty.
AWP doesn’t believe in waste, so all the wood fiber going through our mills is used.
Slabs and other solid wood residues are chipped and sold as hardwood chips. Sawdust is separated during the manufacturing process and sold for a variety of uses. Bark is removed from logs prior to sawing and sold for hardwood mulch and fuel. Hardwood chips and sawdust are also used to make hardwood pellets for home heating fuel.
