AWP Forestry Hosts WVU Students

May 4, 2023 | Company News

On April 10th and 17th Allegheny Wood Products foresters Dave Kennell and Paul Oldham hosted Dr. Joe McNeel’s West Virginia University Timber Procurement class for a tour of a logging site and the AWP Kingwood sawmill. The visit was part of the student’s study of harvesting methods, log utilization, log grading, and scaling as well as lumber manufacturing.

“Having these students visit us reminds both Paul and me of our days in college and when we went on visits like this. As experienced foresters now, it is a joy to be on this side of the visit and share our experience with these students” commented Dave Kennell.

AWP Kingwood sawmill produces over 40 million board feet of hardwood lumber annually. Kingwood foresters purchase in excess of 30 million board feet of logs and standing timber annually to supply the sawmill.
